Red Lipsticks- shades perfect for Valentine's Day kissing

Red Lipsticks

Roses are red, violets are blue, here's a red lipstick, perfect for you! Time to pucker up ladies because Valentine's Day is just around the corner. Sexy, smouldering and making a statement, red lipsticks have been a must-have makeup item for decades and what better time to wear red lipstick shades than Valentine's.

Fresh out and perfectly timed is Yves Saint Laurent's new Rouge Pur Couture Vernis à Lèvres collection. It's somewhere between a lipstick and a gloss in texture and finish. The range is made up of a massive 19 shades (something for everyone or what?) which also includes three red shades -  N° 10 ROUGE PHILTRE and No11 ROUGE GOUACHE, mentioned on Beauty Bombshells - are pink-toned shades. But for me, my oh la la is resevered for  N° 9 ROUGE LAQUE. It's a full-on red, more coral oranged toned and I love it. These new products perfectly combine the sheer, shimmery look of a gloss with the staying power of a stain. The texture is light, doesn't dry out lips and colour stays put without streaking, running or most importantly, fading. Out 14th February, £22.50 buy from YSL counters nationwide.

Also new on the market is the new limited edition red lipstick by Cheryl Cole and L'Oreal.  Together they've produced a limited edition Color Riche Lipstick called Red Passion, with £1 from every sale will be donated to The Prince's Trust. It's enriched with a combination of Omega-3 oils and Vitamin E, which stops lips from drying out and leaving them moisturised. It's a full-on punchy rich red, I love the depth of the colour and it definitely makes a statement. It's out now for £8.16 buy from Boots or Superdrug.

And if you love Clarins Joli Rouge lipstick range, great news, there's a new Poppy Red shade. This classic, creamy lipstick is a winning combination for me because it pairs great colour with moisturiser. This new Poppy Red shade is more pinky shade of red than the other two. And it's somewhere between them in finish too with the shine and shimmer of a gloss but depth of colour of a lipstick. Out now £16.50, buy from Clarins counters or www.clarins.co.uk

There's plenty of red lips makeup tips from how to apply to different shades for different skintones so don't be scared there really is a red lipstick colour for everyone. And it's always a great look, but a word to the wise. If you are plannig on making statement lips, it's always an idea to for ease off on the dark and heavy eye makeup, it tends to look too much. See exhibit A: Angelina Jolie and Rachel McAdams. Whilst I'm not a lover of Angie's overall look, her lipstick choice at the Golden Globes paired with subtle eyes is perfect. But Rachel McAdams at the premiere of new film The Vow paired her lips with heavy eye shadow, and a fringe and a heavy matte foundation - anything else you want to add in Rachel? So pick one eyes or lips et voila perfect red lips.
