When Cate Blanchett appeared on the red carpet contest was over - she was our absolute fashion favourite from the 2011 Oscars. Although we saw a tweet describing it as barnacles, fans went wild for the Oscar-winning actresses lilac Givenchy dress and and we totally agree.

Last night Hollywood donned it’s glad rags and broke out the jewels for the most glamorous night of the year, the Oscars. And what a red carpet designer extravaganza it was. We’d thought it was going to be a night dominated by Marchesa gowns. And while Sandra Bullock and Vera Farmiga both wore the label, it really was a mixed bag of designers.

Where’s Björk when you need her? No worries, Mariah seems on course to fill the what-was-she-thinking? category at this year’s award shows. Admittedly she wasn’t wearing a swan dress, more’s the pity. But she did pitch up at last night’s Golden Globes in a dress that was more suited to a Snoop Dogg video.

Course, award shows were more fun when people turned up wearing funny outfits. But now, most stars use a team of experts to help avoid worst-dressed lists.
