TV chef Nigella Lawson hit Sydney's Bondi beach wearing a burkini, a three-piece swimsuit designed for Muslim women. Perhaps an unsual choice for a woman famed for her Rubenesque curves and one who, thanks to her food-tasting finger-licking, has even been labelled as 'the queen of food porn'? But according to her spokesman, Nigella was wearing it to protect her pale, English Rose complexion from the harmful sun. And given how amazing the 51-year-old looks, who are we to argue.
The burkini is sold by Islamic swimwear company Modestly Active, which has stores in the east London suburbs of Walthamstow and Stratford. The firm makes "shariah compliant swimwear" and the model chosen by Miss Lawson costs from £79.99 for a small size to £89.99 for XXL, offering a sun protection factor of 50+.
